

David Anstead - associate
David was formerly a senior HMI with Ofsted. In that role he had responsibility for managing the quality and impact of secondary school inspections in the East Midlands and led a team of schools HMI in delivering improvement work across the region.
David is considered an expert on secondary school performance data. He designed one of Ofsted’s risk assessment tools and helped write the current section 5 evaluation criteria for the achievement judgement. For three years, David was Ofsted’s national adviser for ICT. He wrote the influential 2009 report, ‘The Importance of ICT’, which initiated the subsequent review into the value of vocational qualifications and was the first to point out the absence of programming from the secondary curriculum. Prior to joining Ofsted, David was the headteacher of a large comprehensive school in Derbyshire for five years where his leadership was judged to be outstanding.
He has extensive experience of leading and managing change in schools to raise standards. David was a member of the Kershaw investigation looking into the allegations made in the ‘Trojan Horse’ letter.
